Finances and Faith
Money has seemed to take over the
world. We often have this idea that if we are not rich, we cannot and will not
be successful in life. If we are not rich, we can’t support or provide for a
family. And if we are not rich, we will never amount to anything in life. Money,
finances and living in this world is so much more than just that. We do not
have to be millionaires to be rich. It is the people around us who make us rich
and all of our experiences in life that give us worth. It is what we chose to
do with our lives and how we strive to live that will give us worth and make us
infinitely rich.
However, money is an important
factor in our lives along with education. The way we utilize our years when in
school and the knowledge we gain over those years can be expensive and time
consuming. But it is well worth it. It is also so important to work and make
money to provide for the essentials we need in life. Money is not a wicked
thing and it is not an evil desire to want to have money. But often times,
money can turn into the main focus one’s longing desire. It is very common to
hear people say that they want to hold off on marriage or children until they
have a stable career, job, and can provide for their family. Contrary to what
most thing, an emphasis on money and a career is not preparing for a family,
but rather, a divorce. We will never truly be ready to be mothers and fathers
and will not be ready to be fully independent in this forever changing world.
Because of this, we need to get away from the idea that there is a right time
to have a family and it is only when you are well off and have all the money
you need to provide. Often times our career and work can become our new passion
and couples can grow apart because they are so concerned with their earnings
and not making something special and growing a stronger connection and relationship
with one another. Don’t get me wrong, education is so important in all of our
lives and making money is important. But it is not the most important thing in
the world. Our education is not just for us, so we can get a degree and make a
lot of money someday. It is here for us to better us, enlighten us, and help us
become more equip to bring a new generation into this world. We can pass our knowledge
and understanding or various aspects to our children and teach them important
values that perhaps other may lack.
Now days I feel as though my generation
is not quite sure how to budget and take care or save money very effectively.
These simple qualities can mean the difference between paying off student loans
for decades and being able to effectively pay off the loans quickly or not even
have any! One thing I have such a strong testimony on is the power of tithing.
It taught me at a young age how to budget my money and set some apart each time
I received a paycheck. I also know that when you are obedient to Heavenly Father’s
commandments, He always will bless you and provide for you. If we budget our
money, work hard, pay our tithing, and do so much more, life tend to be much
simpler and doable for anyone and everyone. It starts with simple, baby steps.
If we have the desire and put the effort into our families and follow the guidance
we’ve been given, it will surprise you how much you really are capable of accomplishing.
